The Journey Begins

Time for sabbatical. Starting May 17, 2022 Faith Presbyterian and I are taking sabbatical. This is a time that I will be away for study, rest and developing a new rhythm to life.

Our theme is "Take a Breathe-Breath the Word of God." This is based on 2 Timothy 3: 16-17. "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work." While it may seem that sabbatical is stepping away just to rest and take a breathe, it is a time to rest in the Lord and spend time in God's word and walking with Him.

On May 17, I begin my journey with a trip to Israel and "following the Footsteps of Jesus." This is my first trip to the Holy Land and I look forward to seeing the places I read about in my daily devotionals. I hope to have time to post each day about my experience. I will return to Oregon on June 4.

After a few days of being home and spending time with family, Janet and I will take our tandem to Virginia and sped eight weeks cycling across America. Our goal is not to make it all the way across, but to enjoy our time together and seeing this amazing country. Again, I hope to post a few times a week.

While I am gone, the church will be trying new things. Christina Reeves will be our summer youth intern. She will preach four times over the summer, yet her focus will be providing youth events and helping explore a new youth ministry in the church. On the first Sundays of the month, guest ordained ministers will preach and officiate communion. On the remaining Sundays, members of the church will share the message reflecting on our theme: Take a Breathe-Breath the Word of God. I hope you join us for the journey.
